Student Police Auxiliary
The Student Police Auxiliary within the Informational Services/Community Outreach Bureau employs University of Maryland (UMD) students to help further the mission of ‘Terps Protecting Terps.’
Referred to as Student Police Aides (SPAs), our student employees are civilian, unarmed staff members. SPAs complement our robust safety programming by patrolling the UMD campus in pairs, either on foot or in vehicles. They provide a wide array of services and security, with tasks that range from traffic control for special events to providing walking safety escorts, to staffing our gate houses and more.
Employment
We offer students the opportunity to achieve excellent work experience. Our shifts can vary, which allows students a high level of flexibility to plan their day between study, work, and relaxation.
We hire students at various times during the year for the Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter semesters. Students are not required to work during the summer or winter breaks, but many hours are available. We encourage students of all majors to apply.
Our starting salary is $16.50 an hour and can go as high as $20.00 with promotions. Many weekend and night shifts pay an extra $2.00 an hour, and specific shifts may pay an extra $4.00 an hour.
