Information Systems Support Assistant - Closes 6/1/25
The Information Systems Unit of the Department of Public Safety is actively looking to employ a highly competent student intern starting as early as this Summer and continuing throughout the calendar year. Be part of a small team dedicated to managing a computer network of over 250 desktops and servers, as well as 150 mobile computers and devices spanning 3 buildings both on and close to the campus, as well as designing and building complex computer programs designed to simplify departmental work. Our student intern positions are a great stepping stone for a career in Computer Science and Information Systems industries, and provide the opportunity for highly-motivated individuals to begin to interact with enterprise-level hardware and network systems.

Primary Duties
- Perform standard preventive maintenance and simple repairs on computers and peripherals (enterprise and desktop printers, monitors, scanners, etc.)
- Configure, deploy, and test department workstations and network components
- Analyze, resolve, and follow through on workflow and security incidents
- Assist with internal audits including software, networking, and access
- Help maintain and support critical campus security infrastructure
- Be part of integral testing and integration of new equipment used in the public safety, police services, and 911 emergency dispatch environment
Qualifications and Essential Skills
- Windows based troubleshooting experience required (Windows 10 / 11)
- Microsoft Office experience required
- Basic computer expertise (computer hardware and repair, networking, etc.) required
- A certification is not required, but knowledge of the subject material covered in the CompTIA A+ certification is a plus, and is the core of this position's job functions
- Excellent critical thinking skills using logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of multiple solutions or approaches to problems
- The following skills are considered a plus:
- Experience with an Active Directory environment
- Windows Server 2019/2022 and components (such as IIS) experience
- Experience with Office365/Exchange Online
- Experience with ArcGIS
- Experience interacting with enterprise database systems (such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, etc)
