Safety Notices

The University of Maryland Police Department issues a UMD Safety Notice to share important information about a crime or incident that poses an ongoing risk to the safety of the university community. UMD Safety Notices are issued for incidents occurring both on and off campus; sometimes the notice seeks the community’s help for information regarding the incident and/or the identity of the suspect(s) involved. Links to on-campus and off-campus UMD Safety Notices are provided below.

There are two types of notices: On-Campus UMD Safety Notices for incidents that occur on UMD Property and Off-Campus Community Notices for incidents that occur off-campus. Safety Notices provide timely information such as timing, location, incident type, and whether other police agencies are involved. In addition to being posted on the website, Safety Notices are also sent by email.

This information is provided as part of the University of Maryland's commitment to safety at the College Park campus and is in compliance with the federal Student Right-to-Know and Campus Security Act of 1990 (Public Law 101-542 as amended to the Clery Act of 1998) and the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 1965 (Public Law 110-315 as amended in 2008). Every attempt will be made to distribute UMD Safety Notices in a timely fashion subject to the availability of accurate facts concerning the incident.
