Threat Assessment Program
UMPD has an active, ongoing Threat Assessment Program (TAP) in which trained personnel conduct criminal and administrative investigations into concerning, disruptive, and threatening behavior reported to UMPD and the UMD Behavior Evaluation and Threat Assessment Team (BETA).
Information Technology
The Information Technology Unit (IT) is composed of civilian staff who serve the department and campus with the following primary functions: Technology Support, Systems Administration, Security Administration, Programming, Geographical Information Systems & Mapping, and Database Administration. Information Analysis
Created in 2010, the Information Analysis Unit (IAU) provides tactical, strategic, operational, and administrative law enforcement analysis to support the University of Maryland Police and our partners on campus and the College Park Community.

Crime Prevention and Community Outreach
The Crime Prevention and Community Outreach Unit focuses on programs centered on building relationships with members of the community, crime prevention efforts, and safety and security awareness programs tailored to meet the needs of UMD students, faculty and staff.
Our unit makes independent efforts to reduce the opportunity for crimes to occur, through efforts to incorporate Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). Crime prevention programs are regularly available and may be scheduled by calling 301.405.7032.
