  • UMD Advisory 10/19/2024

    Dear campus community, Theft is the most reported crime on our campus. However, we have seen have seen a rapid increase of theft, specifically, theft of e-scooters. Since September 1, 2024, we have received over 70 reports of e-scooter thefts, across different parts of campus. E-scooters are portable, lightweight, and easy to use, making them very popular among our community. E-scooters are also appealing to others who are looking to take advantage of an opportunity.

  • Information on E-Scooter Cases

    We have created a page as it pertains to e-scooter theft. The first half of the page contains photos of suspects that are connected to e-scooter thefts. The second half of the page provides updates in cases in which a person has been charged. This page will be updated.

  • Accepting Applications for Spring 2025 Citizens Police Academy

    The University of Maryland Police Department (UMPD) is hosting the Spring 2025 Citizens Police Academy. We invite members of the community to come learn about various aspects of our department in a simulated academy setting. The goal of the Citizens Police Academy is to build relationships across the campus and within our community.

    UMD Community Text Alerts were sent overnight for an off-campus assault with a weapon. The incident occurred along Rhode Island Avenue, between Rossborough Lane and Norwich Road. To view the alerts, visit https://alert.umd.edu/alerts . UPDATE: Earlier this morning, the driver of the e-scooter contacted UMPD and provided information and context of the event. The Prince George’s County Police Department continues to investigate.
