**Community Advisory**
The purpose of this e-mail is to make you aware of an incident that occurred off-campus near the University of Maryland, College Park campus. The following is a synopsis of an incident reported to the Maryland-National Capital Park Police, Prince George’s County Division.
INCIDENT: Off-Campus 1st Degree Assault (Non-Contact Shooting)
OCCURRED: August 26, 2026 (Wednesday)/ Approximately 2:45 p.m.
LOCATION: Paint Branch Trail by Lakeland Road, College Park, Maryland
PARK POLICE CASE #: 2601835
BRIEF DETAILS:
On August 26, 2026, at approximately 4:37 p.m., the University of Maryland Police Department was notified by the Maryland-National Capital Park Police, Prince George’s County Division of an off-campus incident.
Officers responded to the area of the Paint Branch Trail by Lakeland Road and 48th Avenue and were informed of the following: A juvenile male saw two juvenile males retrieve a gun from their clothing. The victim then began to run east along the trail, when a suspect discharged the weapon towards the victim as he was running away. The suspects then left the area in a red vehicle. No injuries were reported. Based on the investigation, it appears that the suspects are “possibly” known to the victim.
